I am interested in the Unix Gold plan, but can you please tell me how I can go about using a domain that I have with UKReg (.com)?

Thank you in advance.

I've emailed Mat for a more detailed explanation, but in brief, you can either transfer the domain to us or you can change the nameservers. You will need to have more than 30 days left before the domain name expires to transfer it, and it costs one year renewal to transfer it (this adds another year of ownership to the domain, in your ownership of course).

Hi Starlight and welcome to the forums.

As Marcus says, you have two choices ...

1. You can transfer the domain. To do this, we would have to set you up an domain account (reseller or retail, its up to you).

Then you have to go into your UKReg account, go to Configure Domains. You'll then see a list of the domains that you have with UKReg, now click on the domain you wish to transfer. The next part depends on whether your domain is a uk domain (like .org.uk, .co.uk, etc) or not.

If your is a .uk domain, then you need to select the option called Change IPS Tag, on the next page, you will see FASTHOSTS (UKReg's ips tag) in the input box, you need to change that to ENOM.

If your domain is not a .uk domain, then you need to select the option called Release for Transfer. Then select the option to release the domain for transfer, this usually allows someone to request the domain be transferred to them for up to a week.

The person requesting the transfer will be you, and you do that by logging into your Enom account and selecting Transfers from the domains section of your account. This part we can do for you though if you wish us to. You will have to pay for one more year's registration (which still goes in your name) for the transfer, you can find the current domain name registration price ~ transfers can take up to one week to complete, but we have recently been seeing completions within a day. The actual time it takes depends on how quickly you answer your emails, since the owner contact email address is sent a confirmation request before the transfer can proceed, to which you need to reply as to whether you agree or not.

2. You can change the nameservers for the domain. To do this, you need to log into your UKReg account, and select the domain form your list of registered domains. This time it does not matter if you have a .uk domain or other, you'll need to select the same option for any of them. You select the option called Modify Nameservers and enter the following in the two input boxes for the nameservers ...

In the box marked Primary Name Server: put the following nameserver with IP address (exactly as shown in your welcome email but represented by xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in this example) ... ns1.everymanhosting.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

In the box marked Secondary Name Server: put the following nameserver with IP address (exactly as shown in your welcome email but represented by xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in this example) ... ns2.everymanhosting.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Once you have done that, it takes anything up to one day to complete although we have often seen name-server changes complete within a few hours.

When it has completed, your visitors to your web site will be sent to our servers, and our servers will serve up your site from your hosting account.

If you need any further help with this, please let us know here, or contact support (@everymanhosting.com)

Mat.
