Whilst we do not offer direct support for any Fantastico script (they each have their own support services and web sites), we do come across a lot of cries for help when some scripts are the subject of 'hacking' attacks.

Please regularly check that any script that you have installed is kept up to date. You can do this by regularly going into fantastico via your control panel (secure access via https://www.everymanhosting.com/control-panel/). You should see a message there indicating what scripts need updating. There is one drawback with this method, we are all relying on the Fantastico producers making updates available via Fantastico when they become available. This is beyond our control and sometimes we find that updates are being made available a little late.

The other and better method of keeping any of these scripts up to date is to keep in regular contact directly with each scripts' web site and keep look specifically for new version updates or releases. You will find a link to the corresponding web site for each of the Fantastico scripts on each of the install pages in Fantastico itself. You should bookmark each of the web sites which correspond with the scripts that you have installed.

In more recent months, some scripts (such as phpBB) automatically check for updates each time you access your script administration.

The important thing is to regularly ensure that each script is kept up to date to prevent any data loss. It really is down to you to do this.

If you want some warning of when vulnerabilities are found (and they are found in pretty much every script and bit of software available nowadays), then we recommend a subscription to Secunia's free alert service - go to http://secunia.com/ and sign up, its free.
